Pakistan’s Spotlight: WSFP Hosts FIS Cross‑Country Races at Rattu, GB

From 10 to 17 February 2025, Rattu Valley became the stage for several FIS cross-country competitions, including 10 km and 15 km interval-start events. Over 19 athletes participated from regional and institutional teams, including Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts, Pakistan Army, and Pakistan Air Force. The races provided a platform for local talent to compete under international standards, with GB Scouts’ Hussain Shah emerging as the star performer, winning multiple events and helping his team secure top honors.

Hosting FIS-sanctioned events in Pakistan marks a breakthrough for winter sports, signaling the country’s growing capability to organize international-level competitions. The scenic, high-altitude terrain of Rattu Valley provided a world-class venue while simultaneously promoting tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan. Beyond competition, these events inspire younger athletes, encourage local participation, and strengthen Pakistan’s presence on the global winter-sports map.

The success of the 2024–25 FIS Cross-Country Ski Races in Pakistan highlights the nation’s potential to become a hub for winter sports. With homegrown athletes achieving top performances and international standards being met on local terrain, the Rattu events represent a turning point — blending competitive excellence with the country’s natural landscapes, and setting the stage for future international winter sporting events.
